Chris Mulcare

Chris spent six years within New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) leading their clean technology investment area.  As part of this work Chris developed a Clean Economy Framework for Aotearoa based on renewable energy, renewable transport, low carbon industry, sustainable agriculture and sustainable development.  This model is particularly relevant for sustainable economic development in regions like the Waikato.

As part of his NZTE work Chris helped to establish Industrial Symbiosis Kawerau. This involved developing a shared vision, a range of 'circular economy’ partnerships, and a set of guiding principles for Kawerau to help unlock new investment and job creation opportunities.  This included working with local government, industry, business, community and iwi stakeholders to ensure that the initiative reflected their aspirations.

Later Chris worked as Partnerships Manager for the Norske Skog/Z Energy 'Stump to Pump' biorefinery project in Kawerau, supported by the Ministry of Primary Industries.

Chris’ areas of expertise are:

  • Green economy development and investment facilitation
  • Regional economic development
  • Clean technologies commercialisation and investment
  • Project, programme and strategy development
  • Facilitation and partnership building
  • Business case preparation

Chris is a Korimako associate and is also director of Nu Capital Works - a boutique economic development and investment agency working with New Zealand’s regions on projects that create sustainable wealth and prosperity.
