Korimako is a relatively new enterprise.  But our team have collectively developed and delivered a wide range of relevant sustainability projects in other roles.  Some examples include:

 

Christchurch District Energy System

Tim Taylor was the key champion of establishing the Christchurch District Energy System (DES) as part of the Christchurch central city rebuild.  This project introduced modern municipal district energy to New Zealand.

Tim worked with Christchurch City Council and the Christchurch Agency for Energy to initiate district energy feasibility investigations in 2011.  Then he supported Christchurch City Council and Christchurch City Holdings to undertake further due diligence and to procure partners to develop the Christchurch DES.

During 2014 and 2015 Tim supported the Christchurch DES Alliance's work to prove the commercial viability of separate district energy network nodes.  The Alliance was a partnership between Cofely Australia, Pioneer Generation, Christchurch City Council, the Canterbury District Health Board, Christchurch City Holdings and the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority.  The Alliance's work led to the formation of the Christchurch District Energy Company in July 2015, as a joint venture between Pioneer Generation and Cofely Australia.

Shaun Bowler also played an essential supporting role for the Christchurch DES project through his work on renewable energy projects for EECA.

This project demonstrates Tim and Shaun’s knowledge of district energy systems and their ability to work with a range of public, private and community stakeholders to bring to life a complex energy project.

 

Build Back Smarter

Tim Taylor managed the establishment of Build Back Smarter.  A programme that provides homeowners with free advice on how they can improve the energy performance of their homes.  The focus of the programme is supporting homeowners to take the opportunty to improve insulation, heating and ventilation in their home during earthquake repairs.

 

Target Sustainability

Nina Taylor delivered the Christchurch City Council's Target Sustainability programme between 2011 and 2014, assisting businesses in Canterbury to identify and implement resource efficiency changes in their operations.  Nina undertook water and waste audits, prepared reports and wrote case studies to deliver the targeted waste reduction of 10% or greater for:

  • 15 Countdown stores
  • Riccarton Park
  • SunGard Systems NZ
  • Four Z Energy Stations

Tim Taylor supported Nina with delivery of the Target Sustainability programme between 2011 and 2012.

 

Green Economy Growth in New Zealand

Chris Mulcare spent six years within NZ Trade and Enterprise leading their clean technology investment area.  As part of this work Chris developed a Clean Economy Framework for Aotearoa based on renewable energy, renewable transport, low carbon industry, sustainable agriculture and sustainable development. 

As part of his NZ Trade and Enterprise work Chris Mulcare helped to establish the Industrial Symbiosis Kawerau project.  This involved developing a shared vision, a range of 'circular economy’ partnerships, and a set of guiding principles for Kawerau to help unlock new investment and job creation opportunities.  This included working with local government, industry, business, community and iwi stakeholders to ensure that the initiative reflected their aspirations.   Later Chris worked as Partnerships Manager for the Norske Skog/Z Energy 'Stump to Pump' biorefinery project in Kawerau, supported by the Ministry of Primary Industries.

 

NZ Wood Energy Programme

Shaun Bowler led wood energy and biomass market development programmes for the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority over six years. He understands in detail the issues associated with biomass fuel supply and technologies.  Through the EECA programmes he has supported a number of biomass fuel supply and technology conversion projects across New Zealand.

Harbour Resilience Project

Nina led the Harbour Resilience Project for Project Lyttelton between 2011 and 2014.  This project aimed to:

  • Improve resilience and local self-sufficiency in food and other essential services
  • Set in place cooperative systems and structures
  • Educate people on sustainable livelihood options
  • Strengthen community ties and grow social capital

Reconstruction in the Maldives

Both Jeremy Barrow and Tim Taylor managed complex reconstruction projects in the Republic of Maldives in the aftermath of the 2004 tsunami. These projects required mangement of complex logistics, international project teams, donor liason, local community engagement and government relationships.

             

             We develop and deliver projects with sustainable outcomes
