Community Development
What We Offer
We specialise in helping citizen leaders to design and implement creative community development initiatives – working from the ground up in our shared commons such as:
- Energy services
- Local mobility
- Public space
- Housing
- Food and bioeconomy
Korimako provides bespoke training, coaching and social enterprise development mentoring to community leaders who want to take local action in any of these areas.
We provide this support to citizen leaders through the stages of:
- Defining visions and objectives
- Generating inspiring ideas for citizen-led action
- Planning a viable social business, governance model and legal form
- Blending suitable community financing sources, including collective citizen investment
- Starting up and ensuring that developments, pilot actions, and scaling steps are robust
- Impact evaluation and storytelling
We design and facilitate creative and engaging community co-creation and design workshops to help this process – empowering everyone to contribute to the development of new ideas and actions for their community.
We don’t deliver top-down consultancy; we help you to build local capacity and lead your own change, ensuring that initiatives remain sustainable even after our involvement ends.
We help you to:
Create citizen-led action at the forefront of the change your community needs
Design social enterprises that balance community benefits, feasibility and financial sustainability
Show your wider community how a better future is possible
Why
Community-led development is about citizens working together to make their community fairer, more prosperous and more sustainable. Instead of solutions being imposed by incumbent institutions – residents work together to identify challenges, plan solutions, develop social enterprises and manage their own actions.
Community-led development is especially powerful for managing shared commons that everyone uses and needs, but that are often monopolised.
Well executed community development approaches help to make our communities fairer – sharing value more equitably, and giving everyone a voice in shaping essential local services.
Citizen-led community development shows what is possible in our communities.
