Developing mission-led pathways towards a thriving and climate resilient future for Cetinje.
Thanks to support from the Pathways2Resilience programme (which supports action towards the EU Mission: Adaptation to Climate Change), we are working with partners in Montenegro to advance a mission-led approach to creating a thriving and climate resilient community in Cetinje.
Together with Agency for Business Development and Support Cetinje, NGO Nest, and Smart Up – Social Innovation Lab, we are helping Cetinje community to develop local mission-led change capacities and pathways.
With the local partners we decided to focus on pathways for 2 primary adaptation objectives:
- By 2030, eliminate floods and wastewater spills in the wider city area, even in the most extreme rainfall events forecast by 2050, by upgrading stormwater and wastewater drainage and storage systems.
- By 2031, the Protection and Rescue Service of Old Royal Capital Cetinje will be able to extinguish 99% of wildfires in 5 minutes, with wildfire incidence decreasing year-on-year.
Along with one community development objective was also selected as a priority:
- By 2030, attract 500+ new young (under 30) residents and achieve meaningful employment for all through programmes that enhance cultural and regenerative enterprises based in Cetinje.
Around these objectives we are producing a climate resilience baseline, strategy, action plan and investment plan.
